I am a trained EMDR Therapist, offering EMDR Therapy both virtually within British Columbia, and in-person in the Greater Victoria Area.
EMDR is a highly effective approach that has been extensively researched to support clients who have been through a traumatic event or those who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). There are also benefits for clients dealing with grief, anxiety, and depression.
Common symptoms a person who may benefit from EMDR may be facing:
The goals of EMDR therapy include:
If yourself or your child/youth have experienced a traumatic event, mood-disorder, or grief it can be hard to know where to turn for support.
With work experience through Fraser Health Authority, MCFD, and Kids Help Phone I have extensive work experience supporting children, youth, and young adults struggling with mental health challenges. I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, which is a gold-standard for supporting children & youth facing trauma.
What do Sessions look like?
I practice evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Based Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to provide therapy tailored to a client's specific needs.
CBT has been shown to be one of the most researched therapeutic approaches for supporting clients with depression and anxiety. CBT often helps identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns. We will explore your cognitions (thoughts), emotions, physiological responses, and behaviours. We will also help challenge unhelpful patterns to support healing in your present day life, along with recognizing patterns and opportunities for growth.
ACT is often helpful for anxiety and building psychological flexibility. We will explore growing a tolerance for fostering acceptance for the emotions present, rather than fighting them. Instead of avoiding your current emotions, ACT strives to reduce their impact, and it also helps strengthen personal insights of your sense of self and your values.
DBT focuses on strengthening emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and relationship skills. These skills can be highly effective for supporting clients struggling with emotional regulation or communication within their interpersonal relationships.
